My tips on setting a dining room table. Now today all bets are off. You know the new formal is informal and starting with the base. I much rather go with place mats and table runners rather than a big cloth. You know I find that with the table runners and the place mats, you can change them out for seasons and they're easy to work with, and they add a little bit of you know, design, texture and another interesting layer to the table. So what I like to do is set to people across from each other and place one runner underneath.
So you end up with maybe three runners on the table and six or eight place mats and then next after you have the place mat down you're, going to add your layers and since it's fall, I have all these great autumnal hues and I always start with a charger And I love these chargers: they're metallic they're, actually plastic. I got them at the local craft, the store they're, very inexpensive and I have them in so many different colors they're perfect because whatever the theme of your dinner party, you can switch off your charger.
So you put your charger down over your place mat and then your plate and if you're having a salad course then put your salad plate on top. Now, your napkin, you don't have to do anything fancy with your napkin, but if you're sitting at the dining room table, absolutely you need a fabric or a heavy linen napkin for a napkin ring. You can simply use a piece of ribbon like I've done here because it just makes it easy for your guests to take it off and put their napkin on their lap and get started in on conversation and the great dinner you've prepared and again with this silverware. You know don't overdo it if you're having a salad course absolutely and always put a spoon next to your knife and then with the glassware.
What I love to do is I love to mix it up and you know it's fall. I love this amber glass. I these at a yard, sale or I don't know some sort of sale somewhere. I have 12 of them and I use them all the time they're great for water goblets, and you know I like to mix it up with my wine glasses, and this is a great pattern for fall. It's fun. It adds a great texture and a great pattern to the table, and it just it adds a little air of fun now to finish it off for your candles. You always want them low and unscented, and you can get colored candles that are unscented.
